Cinnamon myrtle (Backhousia myrtifolia) is an evergreen small tree from the
rainforests along the EasternCoastof Australiafrom Bega in the South, North to FraserIslandin Qld. A most attractive plant it has dense shiny
foliage to ground level and a profusion of clusters of small
creamy-white
flowers through spring and summer. It contains the substance cinnamonum which
imparts a
subtle, sweet, warm, cinnamon-like flavour. Add to curries, stews and
rice dishes (wonderful in steamed rice for a subtle unique flavour). Can also
be used in biscuits, sweets and slices - anywhere cinnamon is used, cinnamon
myrtle can be substituted to give that Australian touch. Cinnamon Myrtle makes
a
calming medicinal tea useful for Dyspepsia, heartburn, colic and the
digestive system. Cinnamon Myrtle is available dried as spice, or ground to
your specifications. We use Cinnamon Myrtle in our dreaming tea infusion.
